VUKN Chairman and former Ambassador to Vietnam Warwick Morris chaired the speakers panel at a bilateral Business Forum held in Central London on 25 May 2022. Arranged by the Department for International Trade, it followed the holding that morning of the 12th annual Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) Meeting between the two Governments, expanded this year by visiting delegations on Energy and Renewables, and on Agriculture.
The Business Forum began with encouraging remarks from DIT Minister for Trade Policy, Penny Maudant, and Vice -Minister for Agriculture Tien, and was opened by Oliver Todd, British Consul-General, HCMC.
On the panel were HE Ambassador Long, the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for Vietnam Graham Stuart MP, UKABC’s CEO Ian Gibbons, the British Chamber in Vietnam’s Chairman, Chris Jeffery, the Global Head of Corporate Affairs at Mainstream Renewable Power, Adam Bruce, and the Co-founder and MD of London-based TT Meridian, Thai Tran. The six speakers covered, with notable enthusiasm, a wide range of topics, from the benefits of the FTA to renewables, from ‘How to do business in Vietnam’ to consultancy. There was much emphasis on the need to seize the growing range of opportunities for bilateral business, assisted by the FTA, and guidance on where help and advice can be found in both the UK and Vietnam. It was followed by the signing of an Education MOU, and upbeat closing remarks from Investment and Trade (MOIT) Vice-Minister An.
At least 100 people attended, including members of the JETCO delegations, VUKN followers, and the British Ambassador-designate to Vietnam, Iain Frew. Most remained to network with the speakers and officials over a buffet lunch, which featured some Vietnamese products.
